Your kittens are beautiful! I just found your channel today, and have commented on another video. I have 4 orchids, but never knew really how to take care of them properly. I have a small orchid that was in bloom when I bought it, then never bloomed again for 5 years. Now it is blooming continuously, but is definitely too big for its current pot. Should I re-pot now, or do I wait until it has stopped flowering?

Thank you so much - I have an orchid that was given to me by daughter on her wedding day 11 years ago, and I have repotted it in the past and it has always bloomed, it has survived us moving house last year, but it was looking a bit sad. I had never tried removing the dead roots, so after watching your video I repotted it again, and it is now thriving again, so thank you so much. I also hope that now I will be able to get a keiki from it as well. One question - how long do Phalaenopsis plants live? Hopefully I will get a baby to continue the process!

Danielle, can you tell me about growing orchids in an airconditioned room....I live in Atlanta, GA and we cannot exist without aircondition. I keep my orchids in the kitchen near a sliding glass door, and about 5 ft. away from the a/c vent.....do you have any hints???

So you take the orchid out of the jar and leave it if it has no roots and water 2 times a week? I am not a plant person but would love to start taking care of the 2 I just got. I think 1 is pretty sick.

On a phal has only the root threads left like this one 12:25, and it gets some new roots, when do you cut the root threads off? (As I see in the 3 year old poster child that there are no thread roots.) Can you do a short video on this as I haven't seen another video about what happens to thread roots as time goes by.) 💖🌞🌵😷

I’ve been using what I think you called semi water culture to rehab a phalenopsis that was overwatered. It’s getting new roots, buds, and a new leaf, so I feel like the process is working. I’m putting it in a small amount of water for 24 hours, then removing the water and leaving it dry in the glass for a week at a time. My question is about the strand roots that were left after I removed the rotten velamen. There are lots of those strand roots, and the new roots are pretty short yet. There are 2-3 longer old roots and they are putting out new roots along the length of the root as well. Should I cut off the strand roots? My feeling is I should wait until the new roots get longer so they can reach the water when I water it. Or, would the plant do better if I put it back into bark medium??? I have lost a couple of leaves, and two of the current leaves are a little shriveled and limp. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I’m wondering why you are calling the Orchid plant “she”. Orchid or “Orchis” in Greek literally means testicle. So if anything it would be “he”.

I just bought one that I knew needs some help-I noticed there are actually new roots growing, so that’s good..I put it in the plastic pot with holes but I’m thinking after watching your video that I need to thin all that out and get rid of some moss- so many mushy roots too.. can I send you a as pic?

This video was very helpful. Once you transfer your orchid to a glass do you leave it in water if it has healthy roots? How long does it take for the plant to bloom? I’ve had my orchids for years and all their leaves are green but they’ve never bloomed 😢. Any advice you can offer me would be greatly appreciated 😊

Thanks a lot for all your valuable information. I got a blue flower orchid, that later on I learned it was forced to bloom blue flowers, and it died of over watering but with this video I’m attempting to save her if it possible. Time will say. And I’ll keep you posted. Big hug.

Hi Danielle! I have an orchid that has a long bottom and it's all crusty all around. I saw that you put it in the water after trying to peel it off, but it's like wood. I can't peel it off so I'm soaking it in the water for about 4hrs. I think I'm going to leave it. it has one root on it that I might be able to save, but I was thinking that I was going to leave it until i get the bark off. What do you think?

Question... I have a few semi water cultures that have dark, almost black roots even though they are firm and appear healthy. Others have green roots. Is there a concern or treatment?

Hi Deanna, Ugh ice! I’ve killed many orchids over the years with ice. My addiction started when I looked up ice and orchids. I then began to just try to keep my orchids living. I was down to one and it was alive. One day it had 1 flower! Omg! I got bit hard. I still have that orchid today. But most of my orchids thrive. I’ve put them in hospital many times. I use a glass with a bit of water. I make sure the orchid roots don’t touch. Put it in a ziplock and leave it where it was growing. My case window sills. They grow nice roots and leaves and eventually get repotted. ❤️

I changed the moss on my orchids. One of the stems is brown yellow but towards the bottom at the base it gets almost green. Should I cut off the brown yellow stem?
